what it is and why it is important

Social Media Marketing: Social media marketing according to Google is "the use of social platforms to connect with your audience to build your brand, increase sales, and drive website traffic." To succeed at social media marketing, you must understand the first three pillars of social media which include: scheduling, tagging, and promotion.

Scheduling: Scheduling is all about having content ready to go at all times that automatically does the work for you. When you are handling your business's social media on multiple platforms, it becomes hard to keep up with all the different times you need to post content in order to keep and grow your current following. My favorite platform that I use for scheduling when helping clients is Hootsuite. It allows me to line up all my post for a week and it will post my content for me anytime of the day so that I am able to focus on other things.

Tagging: In 2020, tagging otherwise known as hash-tagging is important to use in each and every social media post because it builds brand awareness with those who have probably never heard of your business before. Hashtagging is most useful if you can use tags that actually apply to your business. For example, if you sell kitten sweaters, an appropriate hashtag is definitely not, "tailored suits." However, you can use hashtags that are associated with your product. For example if we are in the kitten sweater niche, I would use hashtags such as "dog collar, animals, animal tags, humane society, ASPCA, etc." Although these hashtags deal with a wide variety of topics that go beyond kitten sweaters, they are associated enough to each other by the pure fact that they can be related to animals. And from this, you'll be able to find someone who is searching for what you sell, or gain a new follower who before, did not know your business existed.

Promotion: Promotion is very important when growing your following on social media because it is what will gain you the greatest amount of followers the quickest. Just like backlinking, when you have another site of higher authority referring to your site as being the authority for whatever niche you are in, people will take notice and give you a follow if they like your content.

Theme: Having a great theme to your content shows your audience that you care and take the time to craft a unique experience with your social media account. A great example of using theme to your advantage is an image of one of my business Instagram accounts. As you will see, if you work on your aesthetic, potential customers will definitely take notice and reward you with a follow.
